Failure with FNSI
Unless working with power tools, hammer, wire, and wood, etc. counts I was a failure at getting anything done for FNSI. I worked on the coop until well after 6pm last night and didn't have the energy to go into my sewing room. So if you go to my previous post you will see what I got done yesterday instead of FNSI!

It's Friday Night Sew In.....
Tonight's the night for FNSI, I have three possible projects that I might work on.....
Contestant #2 The Frolic/Imagine quilt is partially together and I would like to finish putting the block rows together and be ready to work on the pieced border.
Contestant #3 I might work on a little baby quilt that I have all cut and ready to sew, if I chose this I will probably be able to get the whole top pieced and together.
Tune in tomorrow to see which contestant won the prize.
What project are you going to work on??
Have a Blessed day.
Contestant #1 My Civil War Blocks, I haven't gotten July or August done yet and tomorrow is the monthly meeting, good thing we aren't graded, LOL.

Friday Night Sew In
I know, I said I would be working outside today, change of plans as I can't seem to get out of my own way today. I think my body needs a rest, probably not a great idea to be working with power equipment :0) But it's a great time to mention that Friday night AUGUST 20 is FNSI if you haven't signed up you can click the Friday Night Sew In link in the margin of my blog. Have you signed up, are you planning on signing up? What will you work on, I still don't know yet.

Frolic & Friday Night Sew In
Tonight's the July Friday Night Sew In, what are you gonna work on? Have you decided or are you gonna wing it? I am not sure, but here are some of my choices: Start the Frolic Quilt, continue with my challenge Storybook quilt, work on a table runner for our new neighbor, prepare the backing for All Stars, or get my July Civil War BOM done (I haven't done any and we are meeting tomorrow). So you see I have many options, I will think on them and you'll see what I decide tomorrow. For those of you that haven't signed up yet just click on the box below and get to it, whatcha waitin for??

Here are the photos I promised of Frolic by Sandy Gervais for Moda.
I had been hearing about Schnibbles on other blogs and finally I picked up a book, since I have never used Layer Cakes before this was the perfect chance to try some cake! For those of you that don't know what a layer cake is or if you want to make your own from your stash, it is a stack of 40 - 10 inch squares, it contains different fabrics from the same line. I don't have a stash that has alot of fun fabrics like Frolic, mostly reproductions, something I need to work on for the future so I have a bigger selection for quilts that I make to give away. As I mentioned before this is a wedding gift and so I don't mind spending some $$, and it will add some variety to my stash. I was able to use my BYOB bag for 10% off and got 20% off the backing fabric because I finished the bolt! The fabric with the squares will be the backing, the brown floral is the binding, and the light floral is the background and inner border fabric. The name of the quilt is Imagine, but I will be refering to it as the Frolic quilt on my blog.

Have You Signed Up Yet....
July 23 is the next Friday Night Sew In so.....if you haven't signed up yet click on the button below and read all about it.

I'm still not sure what I will work on yet, I need to decide on what quilt I will make for my nephew's wedding gift, I also need to think about those Christmas gift quilts I HOPE to make. Kathie's Quilt Shoppe is having a challenge that is due in mid August, I hope to get something started on that soon or I probably won't be motivated to participate. Who knows I might have to use the night to get my blocks for this month done on the Civil War Tribute, which has me wondering which one I should do, the more difficult one or the easier version?? The more difficult one has cuts that are in the 16ths and I know that will probably really frustrate me, and I know that the easier one will still help me to improve my skills, which one do you think?? The harder....
Or the simplified version......
When I look at the beautiful quilts that others have completed I think WOW, I have so much to learn. I am someone that is always wanting to get to the next step and have to remind myself that I need to enjoy the process, learn from the process, and practice makes "almost perfect". Quilting for me is very enjoyable and sometimes frustrating but so worth it, this is something that I do for myself, but is an opportunity to share with others, how much better can it get!
Gotta go mow the yard before I have to get some cows to come over and take care of it, have a great day.

Friday Night Results
I really enjoyed Friday Night Sew In and look forward to the next one. I was able to start in the late afternoon and since we had leftovers (thank God for them) I got back to my sewing fairly quickly. The first thing I chose to work on was finishing the last two #6 blocks for my Civil War quilt, our monthly meeting is next week and this will be the first time I am completely caught up!

The next project I chose to work on was the All Star Quilt that I began about 1 1/2 years ago and haven't worked on it much since then. Below are pictures of how each block goes together (all the cutting was completed) first I made a 45 degree line on the back of each of the smaller pieces then placed right sides together and sewed on the line.
Then I cut each one leaving a 1/4 " seam allowance and pressed the seam to one side, this gave me one of the three strips that make each block.

Then I cut each one leaving a 1/4 " seam allowance and pressed the seam to one side, this gave me one of the three strips that make each block.
Here are the strips laid out the way they are to be sewed together, two of the pieces from the previous step and one tan strip in the middle.

Here are ALL of the pieced strips and a few of the partial blocks. Although I didn't get all of the blocks done, I did make a huge dent in the piecing and this certainly gave me the jump I needed to get this one done. Stay tuned as I will continue to work on this one in between other projects. I will also show how the blocks are laid out which will explain the All Stars name, I will also check to see who designed the pattern and share that as well.
I didn't quilt til late into the night as I had originally thought I would, instead my husband and I went to a Babe Ruth League (13-15 year olds) game at 8pm. My husband used to coach, when our boys were in that level , and we still have friends still involved. It was a beautiful night to watch a game, I wish I had brought my camara as the field is truly a gem, it is also the field that the Sanford Mainers play on (they are a semi-pro league). So I had a great evening, sewing and "date" night, then on the way home (11pm) we decided to stop for a late night snack at one of the "gut" truck joints in town. We had clam cakes and fries and boy was it good, we haven't done that in ages!
Later I will share some early morning yard sale finds :0)

Are You Ready for Some Sewing....
Have you got your bobbins loaded and ready to go? Tonight's Friday Night Sew-In, what are you going to work on, do you know or are you going to wing it?? Here are the projects I would like to tackle:
The All Stars quilt also cut and ready to continue working on, I have 46 blocks completed and need a total of 120.
I also have all of this Green Piece that I can tackle if I feel like cutting.
Today is going to be the first of three hazy, hot, humid days maybe some of you ladies further south might have some relief. So who knows I may get in my sewing room this afternoon instead of tonight. What time do you hope to get started? Happy sewing.
