Feeling lighter.................

Feeling lighter now that I have reclaimed part of the basement and two bedrooms, I purged them of junk, painted the corner wall and floor and finally stained the window trim!

This is the basement space before cleaning and painting.

After painting and purging the junk......the back corner is ready for me to bring in the wood in a few months.

This is reclaimed bedroom #1, it is to the right of the space above.....my quilting room!

Reclaimed room #2 also in the basement but it is on the backside of the house and has a full window......it is the guest room.  I am looking forward to using this as a space to showcase a few finished quilts, right now it still has a few of my son's things hanging on the wall.
Off to "reclaim" the garden back from the weeds!

10 Block Sampler

As promised I took photos of the 10 Block Sampler Fat Quarter Quilt that I finished over the weekend.  I really enjoy making these smaller quilts, they are not as difficult as I thought so don't let them scare you!

I added a pocket on the back for hanging but I like it flopped over the edge of my little box.  The nice thing is that I will be making at least 4 more so I can hang the next one!  I'm thinking that the next one will have some applique, not wool but fabric applique.....I've been wanting to learn how to do it the right way, the little bit that I have done in the past was "winging it".  We will see,  I have until Saturday to change my mind several more times, LOL.

Well gotta go work on some more filing.....I'm making progress but I'm also thinking of the best way for ME to be successful in the coming year so I don't have to spend all this time filing every year.......I am going to try a once a month.....or even when I pay a bills I will just run down to file them instead of letting it pile for the year.  I have done well with my receipts so far this month.....I keep them sorted and at the end of the month they will be cleaned out and filed by month/catagory in a small folder.  I know some of you will say why keep receipts, but they are helping me with my budgeting and some are necessary for tax purposes I just need to keep them in order as they come in so I don't go crazy each year!

Finally Some Pictures

I finally have the camera AND the computer to add photos to my blog......

Yesterday I posted about my daily organizer and here are some photos of it............

I also wanted to share a great bargain I recently got at the local lumber yard.  I went looking for shelf brackets and saw that they were having a big clearance sale.  Currently,  I have hollow core doors on the main floor of the house, except for the new doors that were replaced  during the renovating after Roger's accident.  The plan is to replace one door at a time when the doors are on sale, well I was able to find a slab six panel and one six panel pre-hung door at the clearance sale.

I also found two closet doors and one pre-hung door all for the downstairs finished "work-out" room.

The door on the left will replace the old door on the right.  I didn't get any shelf brackets but I think I got a great deal for all of these doors, I paid $110.  What do you think??  I guess I need to add these projects to my to do list, LOL.

Hope you have a great day.

Happy Saturday

Not sure I should share some of these photos, the're messy (lol). I was reading Bonnie K Hunter's blog, Quiltville Quips & Snips and she was talking about organizing her drawers and offered a challenge to organize a draw a day and since I definately need to do that I was in! Here is my twist on her challenge, I tend to get bored and sometimes can't finish organizing a large area so I decided that I would pick small parts of big projects and add in a few smaller ones, here's where I started....

Call me crazy but I decided to help my husband organize his toolbox, I often can't find what is needed and with all the others that use the toolbox sometimes it's not where my husband originally put it. So we are going draw by draw and putting things back where they belong and labeling them hopefully, they might return to their proper place. This is part of a very large project to organize the whole garage and since I need my husbands help and input it will probably be ongoing for a month or two. We have alot of stuff in our garage, mind you we have already spent several days in the past year purging stuff like parts to things we no longer have, broken stuff , stuff we haven't used and will NEVER use again, etc... This gets very overwhelming to me because I don't know what some of the stuff is and where or what it belongs with from an organizing standpoint so it's slow going. I hope to share more photos of the progress in the coming months, I will go snap some before photos today so you will be able to really see the progress:0)

No, the red party cups are not from a wild party they are what I used to help sort sockets to put in the toolbox, my table was taken over by stuff from the toolbox draws! Sorry for the blurry photo.

In between sorting and organizing I did get some sewing done. Got all of the blocks for All Stars (by Cozy Quilts Designs) done and on the design wall to help with putting it together, can you see the stars? I tried really hard to not worry about "matching" the fabric for each star, it looks great and really looks scrappy. It is also great because there is no fussy matching seams only the ones as you put the rows together. What do you think? You can't have it, it's MINE, need to tell myself I will not give this one away!
Lastly, it was time to clean the dreaded desk, so to make it easier I took everything out and brought it to my sewing room table. It's a more comfortable, brighter and I will get it done quickly so I can have my sewing table back! I am guilty of letting papers pile up instead of taking 5 minutes to go file them, or immediately getting rid of the junk mail, I put them on the desk and voila after a few months I can't close the roll top or find that one piece of paper that I need NOW:0( I have a little more to work on but as you can see from the green plastic bag on the floor I have alot done and now I just need to put it neatly back in the desk.

I think I need to make another To Do List because I have several things that are almost finished and instead of finishing them I start something new, oh well, I guess that I just part of who I am. Enjoy your weekend, it's the 4th Saturday and I gotta go to my Civil War Quilt gathering and get my next block!

First Post & Organizing the Sewing Room

Today after reading several of my favorite blogs I decided that I would attempt to start my own. I have a new appreciation for those of you that have blogs, I have been working on setting this up off and on all day and hope that you will be patient while I learn the ropes.

Not sure exactly where I plan to go with this but I enjoy reading and seeing how others decorate their homes as well as the many things that are created. I have also been inspired and motivated by the blogs that I read, realizing that although we are all different we also share many of the same thoughts and feelings.

Hopefully, one benefit of blogging will be motivation to complete projects around the house to share with others. So I begin with sorting/organizing in my sewing room. I can't believe I have acquired so much stuff already, I have only had this room for approximate 1 1/2 years and now it needs to be tuned up.

I decided to refold and label any fabric piece that is 1 yard or larger. I am also sorting and folding 1/2 yard pieces and fat quarter pieces hopefully this will help when I want to start a new project using my stash. The other pieces have been cut to 5", 4", 3" squares or into 2.5" Jelly Roll strips. How do you organize your smaller pieces?

Here are a few other photos of my sewing room. I may rearrange or remove some furniture and plan to take everything out of the closet (to the right in this photo) and put floor to ceiling shelving (that may be in phase 2).

I have a few projects that I want to finish and I won't work on them until I get the fabric sorted and put away.

Hope to be back within the next few days to post again, thanks in advance for your patience while I figure out how to place photos and text, etc. I seem to have lost a few of the photos that I had on the page?? The preview looked good, so here goes nothing.

Have a great day.
