Future Layers

Life has been going along, we had family visit last week, took a day trip up the coast on Tuesday to visit a friend of hubby's, just keeping up with the usual everyday things that need to be taken care of in the summer!

We finally picked up the new girls........

This spring when we got our new coop after we finally built the attached yard for the "Rudy and the girls" we knew that we wanted a few more hens.  On Sunday we picked up four, we have two Barred Rocks and two Araucanas.  The are approximately 9 weeks old and are too small to be in with the others so hubby and I spent Sunday afternoon fixing up a temporary "nursery" for the little ones.  We took the old coop and faced it towards the end of the new yard that the "big girls" are in, left a space between the yard and old coop and fenced in the space between the two areas so they can get to know each other without harming each other.  My next goal is to get over my phobia of touching and picking them, it will be good for me and good for them.  If they are used to being handled it will be much easier to keep track of any health issues, the older girls are much better at coming to me when I feed them, but not so easy to "catch".  Today I held one of the Barred Rocks, baby steps!

If you are reading this then blogger actually let me post it, I tried earlier with no luck.

  2. Hi girls! Emily picks up the neighbor chickens all the time. I just don't have any desire to do that! LOL

I really enjoy hearing your comments, sorry I had to turn on the "word verification" but I got my first comment from a "non-person".......I prefer comments from people.
